CODE / STRATE
Maïs Festival
October 20th 2006 - November 20th 2006

The urban art festival Maïs gave the opportunity to Code to occupy a parking located downtown Brussels. Each artist exhibited in one of the 10 floors of the parking. The paintings, videos, sculptures and other installations remained visible 24h/24h for a month. First chosen as a simple formal observation that can gather a number of artists, the theme of “stratification” led the Code team to question the urban environment. The city is, indeed, permanently remodeled by layers, as much from the material standpoint (thrown chewing gums, superimposed advertising posters, ascending skyscrapers…) as from the social one (one fashion or culture taking over another one, success crushing mediocrity, crowds…). While wandering in the parking, the visitors thus discovered monumental works, which were playful and critical at the same time.
